Anyone who has met or works out with our Athlete of the Month knows she is super deserving! This month we are highlighting Raiden for her hard work both inside and outside the gym, plus her overall positive and uplifting support of others! In the short time she’s been with Kirkland CrossFit she’s made huge changes to her personal being and we could not be in more awe of her… and ALL her continued PRs!!! We asked her a few questions about her fitness and CrossFit journey and please take a look at her answers below – you might learn a few things about her, just like I did!

  1. How long have you been a member at Kirkland CrossFit? I joined mid-July of 2018.
  2. Do you remember your first experience? I absolutely remember it! My very first experience at our gym was not a positive one. A coach a few years ago made us feel very unwelcomed and a little fat shamed. But two current members talked me into giving our box another chance. I really enjoy the two members who recommended KCF and thought that the gym would be worth a second look if the gym was made up of the same type caliber as the people who recommended us. I walked into a morning class, happened to run into one of the people who recommended KCF as well as another person I knew but didn’t know they even did CrossFit. I think what I remember the clearest about my first class was how very welcoming and truly inclusive it felt. The members who talked me into giving KCF a second look were Alicia and Dylan.
  3. Who inspired you to check out CrossFit? My brother is the first person to ever talk to me and get me into CrossFit. It was not an easy sell. I thought it was only for extreme athletes. My brother knew I have an extensive background in athletics and how I had really let myself go and no longer did anything athletic. He told me it was time for me to get back at it and CrossFit could do it for me. He was 100% right. I’m finally starting to feel like an athlete again. And CrossFit has given that to me. Not only in the way that I’m getting stronger ( higher endurance and such) but also in the way that I feel part of a team. Also I feel better about myself.
  4. What keeps you coming back to the gym? I have a drive to be better than I was yesterday. I have had a taste and I want more
  5. Do you have a favorite WOD or movement? I haven’t done a lot of the benchmark WODs but of the ones I’ve completed, Diane is my fav! Deadlifts are my jam! Any day with deadlifts are a good day.
  6. Do you have a least favorite WOD or movement? I just did Annie for the first time… I’m not a fan.
  7. What’s your biggest personal accomplishment inside KCF? Every single improvement. I’m so proud of the increase in endurance and strength. I might not be able to do a lot of body weight movements, but I’m finally getting up to being able do some of the Rx weights.
  8. Is there anything you want to share with KCF community surrounding your personal fitness goals and accomplishments? I  used to be a pretty serious athlete. I was a three sport varsity athlete in high school. Played basketball over seas representing the USA when I was 16. I played women’s semi-pro tackle box football, as an adult. I want to become stronger than I’ve ever been. I want to have more endurance than I did in high school. Lastly, I’ve set the goal of being able to dead lift what my starting body weight was when I started CrossFit. Let’s just say that weight is in the ballpark of an NFL defensive lineman.
  9. Working out with your spouse, what does that mean to you? We come to the gym and workout together because we want to have the best quality of life we can. We don’t want to spend our lives together in pain, sickness and unable to enjoy life. Quantity of life is out of our hands but the quality of the life we have is absolutely in our control.
  10. Outside the gym, what are some of your favorite hobbies? We both love anything that has to do with WWII. We are Pokemon go nerds.
  11. Do you have a favorite place to vacation or travel to? We love getting back to nature. We love our time in the mountains and at the ocean.
